Today, we had the privilege to welcome Ethan Qian as a family member of High Point University. We held a ceremony for him at his school, Changzhou Beijiao High School No. 3, where he was awarded his scholarship for the coming year.

It was the RMA group’s last full day in Beijing. They headed to the temple of heaven to get a taste of the everyday life of local Beijing people.
At the park, they saw a group of women playing Tai Chi ball, which is a traditional Chinese exercise that requires a pair of brackets and a special kind of ball to play. The kids were intrigued by this sport and they even tried to play against these local experts.
The kids snapped a group picture at the temple of heaven; they all said that they were interested in learning to play more traditional Chinese Sports.

It was a beautiful day. The RMA group went to tour the Forbidden City. They walked through the Tiananmen Square and entered the Forbidden City through the famous Tiananmen.
At the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the group stopped and looked carefully over the structures and decorations. The whole group took about two hours touring the Forbidden City. There was so much to see, to explore.
In the afternoon, the boys in the group went to “Happy Valley”, the biggest amusement park in Beijing. They got on almost all of the rides, and were so happy to be able to experience the Chinese styled amusement park.

In the morning, the group got together to head to the 798 Art District. The kids formed groups and went around the district to take pictures with funky looking statues and visit galleries. The women got together and shopped at the artsy stores in the district.
In the afternoon, the group visited Lenovo headquarter, they were given a tour at the Lenovo exhibition center and was able to get into the showrooms to play with the edge-cutting products made by Lenovo.
At night, the group headed to Ren Min University to play basketball with Show One Basketball Club. Before the game started, they first toured around the campus and played the traditional Chinese game: shuttlecock-kicking with a local expert. The kids enjoyed the game so much that they said they would play it when they get back home.
After the little “warm-up”, the real game started! Kids from RMA and Show One had a serious game. They all put in their best efforts and had a fun time playing together! They signed their names on jerseys and exchanged them as gifts.

Today the RMA group visited Prince Gong’s Mansion. The kids enjoyed running around in the garden and was amazed by the sophisticated structure of the Mansion. They splitted into groups and spent an hour exploring the houses in depth.
In the afternoon, the RMA group visited JD.com’s headquarter. They were warmly greeted by the JD staff and were given a tour around the JD office buildings
Everyone had fun playing with the interactive devices at JD, especially the sensor operated photo booth.
At night, JD.com and Jia Yu School hosted a buffet dinner for the RMA group followed by a traditional Chinese paper-cutting lesson. Beth and the representative from Jia Yu School exchanged gifts.
Students from RMA and Jia Yu School joined the event. A group picture was taken at the end of the event. The students became friends with each other, and they exchanged contact information at the end of the event.

Today, the RMA students and parents went to visit Beijing Haidian International School. The faculties from Haiwai took them on a campus tour and brought the students to classrooms.
Activities were held at two of the primary school’s classrooms. The kids from RMA and Haiwai worked in teams to create their own unique Peking Opera masks. They all signed their names on the masks, after they finished drawing. The masks were given to the RMA kids to keep as souvenirs.
In the afternoon, the RMA group along with ten Haiwai kids got together to go to the Summer Palace. They got on boats and spent an hour on the lake. The kids all had a great time. They exchanged contact info and promised to stay in touch in the future.
At night, President Li from Haiwai invited all the RMA people to dinner. Kids all sat in two tables; they had fun talking and eating together.
President Li passed his warm welcome to RMA students and parents. He and Beth, the principal of RMA had a great time discussing their ongoing cooperation and future outlooks.

It was the first day in China for the RMA students and parents. They got up early in the morning to head to the Mutianyu Great Wall. There is an old saying in China: “ One who fails to reach the Great Wall is not a hero.” The students all wore athletic shoes so that they would be prepared to conquer the WALLS, to become real heroes. It didn’t take long for all the people to get on the walls. The kids explored the Great Wall with great passion. They not only climbed the towers, but also walked through the tunnels built into the walls. Look at the lovely group picture taken on the walls, everyone had fun and everyone in the picture was a hero!
The way down the Great Wall was a fun experience as well. Everyone was able to take the slide down. Sliding down the mountain was an exciting experience for the kids! Look at all these smiling faces we captured!

James Gray, former president of Wesleyan College and now Co-Chair of the GCA Advisory Board, joined us today for Beijing Royal School's graduation.

The President of Beijing Royal School, Dr. Wang, came to visit North Carolina to attend another of our Alliance schools', High Point University's, graduation ceremony.

Today we said goodbye to our Spring Program participants. Students from Beijing Haidian School, they came to experience North Carolina culture while touring the many fantastic universities North Carolina has to offer. After visiting 13 different universities including Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, NC State, and High Point University and having some downtime at the North Carolina Zoo and a Charlotte Hornets basketball game, we were welcomed at a going away banquet at High Point University. We hope to see all our participants at these universities next year!

It was another full day for the delegations from RMA and Greenfield. After a cultural tour through the Forbidden City, they joined GCA at J.D.com's headquarters for a meeting with J.D.com's Vice Presidents as we devised a summer program for their children.

Today we were happy to welcome the Heads of School for Rocky Mount Academy and Greenfield School to China. After a full day tour of Beijing Haidian's wonderful school, their future students gathered for the signing ceremony between the schools.
